Job Description
Instructor in Studio Art, Sculpture
Phillips Academy seeks a full-time, continuing Instructor in Studio Art to begin September of 2026. Strong candidates will be practicing artist-educators who have demonstrated skill and experience teaching high-school students in both studio foundations and sculpture, as well as experience with interdisciplinary visual-arts teaching and inclusive classroom practices.

All instructors in the department teach Visual Studies, our ninth-grade foundations course. There may also be opportunities to teach interdisciplinary classes in collaboration with other departments throughout the school. We seek dynamic candidates who will be active participants not only in the academic program but also in the athletics/fitness and residential programs at this boarding school. A master’s degree in fine arts and/or arts education and at least three years of high-school teaching experience are preferred.

This teaching assignment will consist of three or four course sections during each of the school's trimesters. These courses will include a mix of visual studies as well as elective(s) in sculpture. As a department our sculpture offerings are newly developed. The department seeks an instructor with a range of sculptural skills inclusive of, but not limited to woodworking, fiber arts, three-dimensional digital imaging, etc. We are not currently seeking instruction in ceramics, but welcome generalists with the addition of this skill.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Please visit our application portal (https://www.andover.edu/about/employment/teaching-and-administrative-faculty) to submit a cover letter (addressed to Mr. Ben Temple, Dean of Faculty), résumé and exhibition record, contact information for three references including current supervisor in a single PDF file that contains web links to your portfolio (or an embedded portfolio of your work) and a portfolio of student work and sample course syllabi. Please do not send materials directly by mail or e-mail.

Phillips Academy is an intentionally diverse residential school committed to creating an equitable and inclusive community in which students from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences learn and grow together. The ideal candidate supports this commitment. In your cover letter, please address directly your experience and interest in working in such a school community.

Phillips Academy is committed to equal employment opportunity and solicits applications from all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, pregnancy, age, disability (with or without a reasonable accommodation), genetic information, veteran/military status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law.

Any offers of employment will be contingent upon successful CORI/SORI and fingerprinting background checks as well as unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.

Salary range for this role is 50,000-126,000 annually. Placement on the Phillips Academy salary scale is based on years of experience.
